Guidelines on diagnosis and management

In 2015, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published a guideline, Menopause: diagnosis and management, which provides more information regarding the identification and management of symptoms of the menopause.

The NICE guideline recommends the use of HRT for the management of hot flushes and night sweats, and suggests that HRT can be considered to alleviate low mood that sometimes arises as a result of the menopause.

This guideline also clarifies the risks and the benefits of using HRT, which are often misunderstood, and should be discussed with your GP; in particular how those risks vary from one woman to another and how they depend on many risk factors.
