How do I take Utrogestan (Progesterone) 100 mg?

Note: this is a summary of the important points to note about the use of Utrogestan 100mg. Please read the Package Leaflet for the full instructions and precautions and always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.

Utrogestan 100mg should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, and should be taken at bedtime.

Do not take this medicine with food.

You should take your oestrogen and your Utrogestan as instructed by your doctor and according to the instructions relevant for that particular product.

The normal dose is two capsules (200mg) on Days 15 to 26 of your cycle. You will usually have a few days withdrawal bleeding (similar to your period) after this time. Continue to take your oestrogen according to that product’s instructions. Alternatively, one capsule (100mg) can be taken from Day 1 to Day 25 of your cycle. Withdrawal bleeding occurs less frequently with this treatment schedule. Please discuss which schedule is right for you with your prescribing doctor.

If you have any problems with the withdrawal bleed, your doctor may change the way that you take Utrogestan 100mg. This may help to reduce the amount of withdrawal bleeding.
